Ace Hardware has closed. The Jungle Love gift store was still open. Subway shop was closed and the gas station was shutting down. It had to empty its tank and then fill with a mixture of water and foam. Down the street is another shopping center and Longs Drugstore was to close 12/20/14.....

Pahoa Waste Transfer Station has been opened to allow viewing of the recent lava flow into it.
This is a state of the art transfer station that had to be closed due to the June 27 breakout. The community has had to watch the lava come downhill and it finally reached the outskirts of Pahoa. The transfer station was entered in mid-November. This is a sobering reminder of the power of nature. The viewing area is closing on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015 in order to reopen the transfer station...
